Village of GhostLight

Village of GhostLight
Chapter One GhostLight

As Mistruin tower fell so did the portal off the north eastern coast of Labyrinthia. The Knights won a conclusive battle against the foes there. Their portal was one of cyan flame and from it, souls from the Underworld fought the Knights. The surviving Knights returned to Labyrinthia while a priestess from the village of Moonvail returned to her nearby island home.

Sailing past the southern rim of island was a small fishing boat. The fisherman sailed for the western harbor, but dropped his sails as he looked upward over the bleach white cliffs. The cathedral was half exposed, as if some of it had fallen into the sea. Looking at the water around him he could see hundreds of dead fish and sea animals. Below the waters surface, piles of bricks and broken rocks formed a small pyramid. Now drifting with the waves, the fisherman could see the islands harbor in disarray. Suddenly a ghostly light burst from under the water. The light rose into the sky. The fisherman turned his ship and quickly returned to Labyrinthia.

The three towers of Labyrinthia casted their shadows over the twin villages of Old Grove and Old Oak as the sun rose. Some of the villagers walking the beaches discovered debris and supplies drifting in the water from the north. The beach was covered in dead fish and drift wood. In the distance came a single fishing ship. Landing in the port of Old Oak the fisherman called a town meeting. The bells rang as the council gathered in Old Grove. Many residents also came from both villages. Under the tallest and oldest trees in their lands the council heard the tales of the fisherman and the villagers who brought evidence from the beaches. The council decided to take the fisherman to the Knights in Labyrinthia.

Dusk had fallen once again as they traveled up the many steps to Labyrinthia. A great wall sat upon a craters rim. Passing through the two towered gateway, giant iron doors opened. Twin lakes connected by a small creek covered the craters floor. Small stone homes also dotted the area. A tower with a house beneath was once the farm of the Ebony Knight. They descended a giant stairway down to the road below. At both of the lakes were separate passages below the mountains. One was of fire and the other water. These were the trail areas for the Knights to be tested before they could receive their titles and knighthood. The fisherman knew of these areas and heard stories in the local tavern. However, what happened in the depths was carefully hidden, the townspeople could only speculate. Their was also a third area that could not be seen from the surface, it was said to lead into the caves of the dwarven realm.

They crossed over a small stone bridge that lead to giant steps. They followed them up to the central tower. Orange light shined from the many windows. The other two towers had a blue and turquoise light coming from them. Giant green copper doors opened to a central room. It was so tall that they could not see the top. Just beyond this room was a large hall with many tables and fireplaces. At it's center was a round table with enough chairs to sit fifty Knights. Each chair was unique for the top fifty Knights of the Order.

Three Knights sat alone at the table. The leader offered the fisherman and the elders to sit amongst them. Together the council and the fisherman told the Knights of the mysterious surrounding the northern sea and the village of Moonvail. The three Knights all agreed that this matter needed to be dealt with. They informed the council that the Faceless Knight would lead a group of Knights to the island, however the fisherman would have to accompany them.

In the morning the fisherman and three Knights boarded a small merchant ship heading to the capital. It was there they hoped the Tower of Knowledge would send some of their wizards to accompany them.

A few days later their ship arrived to the capital. The Faceless Knight walked alone to the Tower of Knowledge. The tower was the tallest object in all the known world. It stood alone on the south western side of the capital. So massive was the tower that it was said, from it's top you could see the three borders and the change between each of their unique climates. The two unknown lands of jungle and far ocean also could be seen in the haze.

Inside the tower the central room was open and empty, except for a small pool of water. This room was the only one open to the public. The Faceless Knight waited in silence. In the water he saw the reflection of his helmet. It was old bronze with twisting metal that resembled a changing face in three stages. The Knight kelt and touched the water, sending ripples across it's surface. He stood and for the first time in decades saw a resemblance of his ture face. As the ripples changed the appearance of his helmet to that of a singular face.

Doors opened and the Knight turned away from the water. Bennu the teal wizard of life, entered the room. The Knight made a fist and hit his chest three times. Bennu bowed his head and rose his fist to his shoulder in response. The Knight reached into his satchel and took out a scroll. Bennu paused and took the scroll as the Knight mumbled. Bennu opened the seal and read the letter. Bennu looked up and nodded his head in understanding. "Come my old friend, this matter is more important than our friendship." Bennu lead the way into the inner tower. The Knight had never seen the interior of the tower before. They walked down a long hallway of many paintings and artifacts. They came to a large room with a tall ceiling. Ten thrones sat behind a semicircle table, that was once part of a gigantic tree. Behind the thrones was a decorative fireplace made of cooper and mercury to heat the room.

Bennu left the room for a moment, to gather the others. He entered the next room to the right. When the door opened the Knight saw the great library. The door closed as Bennu took an orb from his rob. The Knight turned to the left and saw a giant brass organ. Also near by wS horns of brass. Two empty tables of granite and quarts. A few chairs were also nearby facing the giant instrument.

A few moments later three wizards came from the library door. The Knight walked back and stood before the wizards as they sat down. Bennu was seated next to the white wizard, the third wizard was farther away from the two. Ithra the white wizard of the mind, spoke both out loud and within the Knights mind. "Bennu informed us on the madders in the north east. I have also read the document sent with you. I can not allow more of my family to fall, nor can I allow the darkness behind these gates and underworld flames gain a foothold over our world. Two of my own are still receiving from their time outside these walls. However, one still remains outside these walls. Her name is Meredith, find her at the edge of the desert kingdom, she will be waiting there for you. Though I disagree with it, Izohra here will accompany you and join your endeavors." The Knight bowed as Izohra and Bennu stood. The Knight felt time stop. He alone heard a voice inside his mind. "I know Bennu saved your life and mended your injuries the best he could outside these walls. You owe him a debt. Don't allow one of my own to fall in your place."

Time returned to normal, as did the sounds of the room. Izohra didn't notice the shift. Though Bennu didn't see anything, he changed his direction and followed the two into the first room. Ithra entered back into the library. Izohra gave Bennu a hug and left the tower for the ship. "Knight," Bennu said, "You owe me nothing. You are my friend. They all know the risk. Remember all life is scared and equal." Bennu hit his chest three times. The Knight did the same and bowed before leaving the tower.
