The Tower of Green Flame

The Tower of Green Flame
Chapter Five of TTOGF

From the outside wall, the two wizards saw the Night hit the bottom. They looked to each other and entered two separate ways into the tower. The first passed through an old library of ruin and weathered books. The other crossed through a kitchen area that had not been used in decades. The red wizard came back down the steps and knelt over the broken body of the Ebony Knight. The other two wizards stood in the two doorways across from each other. Azar felt their presence and stood before he could use the Knight for his works. "I see Ithra has sent the third and seventh against me. Tell me, sister and brother how far your minds. Can Ithra be sure you can defeat me and still keep your so called sanity. Do either of you care that she has used you in a gamble. Your lives mean nothing to her. Just tools to be sacrificed. I wonder what will she do when only she remains and all others are gone."

Azar quickly turned and signaled out Anior, who was the weakest of the three. Flames and ice clashed in great bursts of light and steam. Akora used her water magic as a whip to pull Azar back by the wrist. Akora wanted to end this fight quick, knowing they could not win in a prolonged duel. Azar now focused on Akora to free himself from her trap. Anior used his magic to freeze the floor and trap Azar's legs. Both wizards of cyan and light blue used their power to hold Azar down. He pulled and struggled with busts of fire. He was being overpowered and he knew it. He called down the green fire but together Akora and Anior combined their power in their dominant hands to hold the flame back. Azar's plan failed but against their weaker left hands he was able to break away. The green flame resided as Azar stood in the entry way. He could escape into the jungle but he chose to stay. Akora took the center, "Anior go, save the princess and leave our brother to me." Anior bowed his head and ran up the stairway. Akora could sense remnants of her brother within Azar's body. She believed that was the reason why he didn't flee. "All this pain and wrath must end, Azar. Surrender, I am the eldest here. You are beaten." The red wizard threw down his robes, showing his armor and the true condition of his infection. Much of his body was dry and void of life. His skin appeared almost mummified. His armor, was once of red silk and desert steel. Now it was torn and weathered. "Tell me sister who amongst us has the purest light. I hold the purifying flame! I am the doom of the Ebony Knight. Even his legendary sword of a falling star was no match for my power." Akora bowed her head and raised it back up, dropping her veil, already knowing what must be done. The cayn jewel on her forehead glowed brightly. "You have been corrupted Azar, that is your true name. You were once thr most caring of us. You once understood the value of people's life energy, now you have forgotten. It was you who cured all life with your flame. Now you only pledged those with death. I feel your pain brother. I may not be able to restore you to your old self but I can free you from thud living death. May my waters heal your soul and carry you to the afterlife, I will see you soon my brother. I am sorry, forgive me."

The bottom of the chamber exploded into flashing light and mist. Anior reached the room of Azar. His bed was surrounded in old papers and maps. The walls covered in writing of their ancient order. Anior felt the power and sorrow lingering in this room. He turned away and climbed the steps as he heard the echoing yell of Akora. He slipped on the wet stone steps as he felt great pain of his sister. His eyes began to water, his heart pounded. Large cracks climbed up the walls and steps like spider webs. Shaking, Anior reached the top of the tower. He used his power to freeze the cage locks. The princess hugged him, "Please free my people in the cave beneath the tower." She pushed him back. Before Anior could act the princess looked back and bowed her head to him. Anior saw and understood. The princess entered the Green Flame and it grew in brightness and became unstable. It acted like a dying animal trying to escape itself. Anior turned and ran down the steps. The top of the tower began to break apart as the Green Flame began to burst. Akora sat on the floor of the central room, flooded in ankle deep water. A scorch mark was along the floor of the doorway and went outside in the shape of wings. All that remained of Azar was half of his broken skull. Large stones began to fall around them. Anior helped Akora to her feet, together they used their power to move the Ebony Knights body outside. Anior ran back inside as Akora fell exhausted.

Akora watched with closing eyes as the tower caved in on it's self. As dawn rose. Anior emerged from the jungle with a few dozen villagers from the desert kingdom. Together they walked to the rivers edge. With stones from the tower they made a crept for the Ebony Knight and buried him within. The tower no longer stood, only a pile of broken stone marks it's location. Ships from the capital arrive takings the wizards and villagers back to their lands. The desert kingdom regained it's independence from the Immortal Army. The remnants of the undead fade away with the power of green flame. All remnants of them disappearing into the caves and caverns of the desert.
