The Tower of Green Flame

The Tower of Green Flame
T.O.G.F. Chapter Three

To the north, deep within the desert, desecration befell the temple. Underneath the scorching sands, the high priest of the dead and barrel rights was stabbed with a cursed blade. The hooded figure before him spoke in a dark voice, " I Vallada, ninth Knight of the Underworld and ruler of Eternal Life, claim these desert lands for my own." With green glowing aura the dead began to rise. The priest also saw his followers cut down by the living dead and then rise again with green flames in their eyes. He flet the unnatural poison of the same power entering his body. The priest took a dimming torch and burned the figures face. The dark voice echoed in pain and anger. The priest stopped and looked back, the figure threw down his robes. "Azar?" The priest said questioning his own eyes. " What has befell you. What kind of power could corrupt the Keeper of Pure Flame. What kind of entity could possess you against your own people?" The figure paused as if he struggled to understand or was at conflict with himself. The priest lingered no longer, he took this opportunity and struggled to reach the surface.

From the nearby city the princess and her royal guards traveled to the temple to figure out what was happening. They expected bandits after the riches or grave robbers. With the only door already surrounded by the city guard, the princess ordered the culprits to surrender. The priest stumbled outside and collapsed onto the steps. Green and red magic entered his body. The priest stood rapidly and with green flaming eyes. Dozens of reanimated corpses exited the temple and fought city and royal guards. Some of the living dead got passed, entering the city and attacked the inhabitants.

A blur of red and green mist came next and left a trail of smoke and ash behind it. Everyone it touched fell a became another host to the green flame. When it stopped only two royal guards remained unharmed. It's back was turned to the princess and a few archers on the walls behind her. The two guards faced the red wizard, Azar. They attacked but he moved with speed, they were pushed back towards the temple entrance. One fell in the sands between the princess and the temple. The last guard tried to fight back but the wizard made a duplicate of himself and together they fought the guard. Defeated the guard fell back on the temple steps. The wizard became one again and turned to face the princess. "The Northern Lands will become mine. The other two kingdoms will fall to my power and my immortal army. Stand with me as my queen and you too will be immortal. You will be a goddess amongst ants." The wizard out reached his arm. The princess with tears yelled, "Archers! Fire!"

The wizard grinned as he used his magic to burn the arrows. He sent green magic into the ground and sand spikes bursted out of the ground, impaling the archers. Green Flames appeared in their mouths and eyes as they shook and kicked in pain. They became undead servants. The princess looked upon them and she could feel their pain and suffering. "You are no longer this kingdoms wizard, nor are you a loyal companion of my father's crown. Your birth right and citizenship are withdrawn. I cast you out, your a demon, a monster!" The wizard became a dark mist of green magic and smoke. The princess took a deep breath as she was consumed and taken.

The small city was overtaken. The army of the red wizard continued to desecrate the desert lands and with each city and village that fell, the numbers of the immortal army grew. Not long after, the king of the northern desert sent word to Labyrinthia and the capital. The Ebony Knight of Labyrinthia was sent with a few hundred warriors to help. Meredith, the yellow wizard of the sun, was also sent to help in the desert. She dismissed the other two wizards and tasked them with continuing the hunt for Azar. The Ebony Knight and Meredith meet the king in the capital city of Mer'rathus. It was one of the few free cities left in the desert kingdoms. The Ebony Knight left his warriors with the king to fight in the defense of Mer'rathus. However, he would take his leave and go south to find the princess. Meredith would stay in the desert lands to fight against the immortal army. She informed the knight that two other wizards also pursued Azar and the princess.
